Most of the content of this site has been derived from the doctoral thesis of Dr. Sunil Joshi, Senior Scientist, Project Directorate of Biological Control (PDBC), Bangalore, who carried out extensive and intensive studies on the aphid fauna of Karnataka and the natural enemies of aphids, particularly parasitoids, under the guidance of Dr. C.A. Viraktamath, Emeritus Professor, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore.
The information has been compiled and edited by Dr. J. Poorani, Principal Scientist, PDBC. Most of the photographs were taken using Leica MZ 16A StereoZoom microscope. The slides of the aphids studied, including those used in the preparation of the illustrations given with the descriptions, are presently in the personal collection of Dr. Joshi at PDBC.
The site was constructed under the Network Project on Insect Biosystematics, funded by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi. We are grateful for the help and encouragement from Dr.V.V. Ramamurthy, National Coordinator of the Network Project.
